MGC Opens ‘The Vault’, Adds Incentive For Donations

Through partnerships and other programs with companies, MGC has stored up a stash of goodies we’ve been planning to use as giveaways during some of our feature debuts we’ve been working hard to produce for you.

However, without your help, these features won’t exist - so in an effort to spur additional response from the community on our Spring Donation Drive, we’re cleaning out the Vault! We’ve got a few games (most of which are region-free!) and some cool little Xbox-related items that we will give away to random friends of MGC who help us live on.

Of course, we want you to donate specifically to help MGC continue on and continue to grow, but if this is a way to directly ‘give back’, then we’re more than happy to provide.

We thank those who have been generous enough to help thus far!

MGC Opens Up Donations; Every Little Bit Helps!

If you’ve been looking at MGC for the past 24 hours, you may have noticed a new Donation Page linked at the top of the site. I wanted to talk a little about what we’re doing, and why.

Over the past 3 and a half years, MGC has provided services to millions of Xbox 360 Community members to share their gaming history, compare themselves with friends, and generally be a useful part of the gaming space. In that time, we’ve seen the influence MGC has had, especially evidenced by the 14 Million GamerCards we serve daily.

But we’re not done yet — or at least, we don’t want to be! There are still a number of great things that we’re hard at work developing, including a re-release of a popular feature that closed last fall. To do that, however, we need your help.

MyGamerCard is attempting to raise money to obtain a new machine that will run our database - the central point of the site. The database houses your current stats, history, achievement percentages, etc. Without it, there simply is no MGC. The current server not only has limitations for growth, but was on loan from a company who is requesting it be returned.

Every little bit goes a long way. And if you think about it in gaming terms, it’s like buying a new game and having free DLC for life - always providing new features and experiences! Even just $5 from a portion of our visitors for one day would fully cover this.

Thank you to those who have already helped out! For those who donate while logged into their MGC Account, I’ll be sure to provide early access to some of these new features as they become ready for use; let me know if you have any further ideas!

If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to discuss here. If you have a direct interest in providing support outside of PayPal (perhaps employees of a hardware company are reading? :) ), you can contact me directly at donate [@at@] mygamercard [.dot.] net.

Service Notice For Members Using Third-Party Program, ‘XBLFriends’

Many users have been reporting the inability to use MGC GamerCards after installing a program called ‘XBLFriends’ to their computers.

Unfortunately, this program has a nasty bug that will flood MGC with a number of blank GamerCard requests every single second, generating thousands of requests, and tying up valuable resources. In turn, the only option for our servers to defend itself is by blocking access from that IP address, which will prevent any user from that IP address from using MGC GamerCards at all.

I’ve attempted a few times to contact the author and have him fix this problem, but despite the damage and congestion this causes MGC, this does not seem to be a priority for him. Unfortunately, I must openly discourage users from installing and using this application, and recommend uninstalling it if you are an existing user.

Obviously, this is certainly not what we want. We at MGC always enjoy and encourage third-party websites and services to utilize our GamerCards to enhance their applications, but we’re only equipped to handle valid requests.

If you have installed this application and have been affected by a sudden inability to access GamerCards, you can contact us to have your IP address unblocked.

Please send an email to help [@at@] mygamercard [.dot.] net with the following information:
1) Your GamerTag
2) Your IP Address (You can visit WhatIsMyIP.com to get this information)
3) Your confirmation and acknowledgement that you have uninstalled the ‘XBLFriends’ program from your computer.

You may also use that address for any questions you have about this post. Thank you for using MGC!
